Liangwen chu
Liangwen Chu is an artist whose practice explores how emotions are perceived and communicated beyond language.
Drawing from experiences of family, intimacy, and living across different linguistic environments, she considers everyday objects as carriers of emotion and memory. Fruit, a recurring motif rooted in childhood memories of maternal care, has become a point of departure for examining the relationships between objects, bodies, memory, and human connection.
Working primarily through painting, Chu approaches the artwork itself as an object—one that can hold, transform, and transmit experiences that cannot be fully articulated through words.
Born in Ningbo, China, in 1996, Chu received her MFA from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2022. She currently lives and works between Tokyo and Ningbo.
